HOW DOES A PROPORTIONAL VALVE/PROPORTIONAL PRESSURE REGULATOR WORK?
How does a proportional valve/proportional pressure regulator work?
The proportional pressure control valve with an integrated electronic control system allows regulating the outlet pressure in a closed-control loop proportionally to an electronic input signal. Thereby the output pressure is converted into an electronic signal, which is compared to a predetermined value.
For the control system the following ideal is considered: actual value = setpoint value. Standard setpoint signals are 0-10V / 0-20mA / 4-20mA. In case of positive-pressure control systems the feedback variable (outlet pressure) follows the predetermined value. Simply put: increasing setpoint = increasing output pressure; decreasing setpoint = decreasing output pressure.
WHAT IS THE RESPONSE SENSITIVITY?
On proportional valves, the smallest change in the setpoint signal which leads to a change in the outlet pressure is called response sensitivity.
WHAT IS THE ACTUAL VALUE OUTPUT/OUTPUT SINGAL?
The operating pressure is measured by a pressure sensor, converted into a proportional, electronical signal, reinforced, and then outputted as an analogue current or voltage signal. Standard output signals are 0-10V / 0-20mA / 4-20mA. Furthermore, there are 0-5V / 1-6 V.
WHAT IS F.S.?
The information F.S.specifies “full scale” and is generally indicated in %. With an accuracy of 0,2% F.S., the maximum error for a valve 0-10 bar, 20 mbar – ergo 0,2% from 10 bar.

BOOSTER PROPORTIONAL VALVE COMBINATIONS
In order to control pressures with high flow rates electronically, combinations of volume boosters and proportional valves exist. On the one hand proportional valves are not available in large connection sizes on the other hand combinations are usually more efficient.
